Learning the Vi Editor

Vi/m is a part of the core set of tools used on Unix/Linux systems. It can seem alien and unusable at first, but with some work and patience learning how to use Vi/m will add a powerful tool to your tool box. You can check out the Official Introduction to Vim to get started or take a look at the Vi Lovers Homepage.

Below is a list of (mostly) online resource from Quickstarts to Tutorials to Videos and Cheatsheets.

Web Design Foundations

Web Design WireframeThere was a request on Reddit today asking for some resources on how learn web design skills.  The response was great.  So great that I’m just going to copy it here. I really appreciate how the list starts with typography.  This is very much about visual design and not code or other kinds of crunchy hackery.

The information is clearly in the context of web design, for the most part. However there is quite a bit of information here that is just about visual design in general.  I’ve added a few books to the list that I find useful and continue to refer to, a couple of links that I like; in particular I added some links about wireframing.

If you have some links to share, please let me know.  I’m think about how this might evolve into a resource page as opposed to a post.

Many thanks to avogadrospimp for asking the question and to materialdesigner and Luchian for the awesome answers.

“I believe Andy Rutledge’s Gestalt series is the best way to grasp the fundamental principles of design. Reading these articles, and many others found on his site, helped me focus on the important aspects in a design and provided a clear understanding as to why elements on a webpage should, look, be positioned and behave in a certain way.” - Luchian
