What do you think of Rule 8? Rule 7 is really the lead up to Rule 8 - Sticking with core as much as possible works to minimize complexity and performance expense.

Also, Rule 7 is about trusting the choices the core team made about moving contrib code into core. Choosing the right module can be hard - there's just so many. I'd rather a dev stuck with Core (assuming its sufficient) rather then digging through the haystack of contrib modules.

That being said - you may very well be right that contrib can do it better. But the best module might not be the right module. If you can meet your reqs with less modules (likely through leveraging core) I think that's the better way to go. Reduces dependancies, complexity and performance costs.

Thanks so much for spinning off from the initial contradictions of Accessibility is Simple & Accessibility is Complicated. You brought up lots of good points about how organizations should plan to include accessibility talent on web teams.

I'd also suggest that since the rate of change is so fast in this area, that organizations need to also invest in keeping these staff informed. Going to conferences like http://www.accessconf.ca will really expand peoples understandings & give them additional resources to work from.

I also think that the price of accessibility can be brought down by participating in open source projects like Drupal & WordPress and being vocal about accessibility issues. Simply raising awareness to developers about best practices - like those identified in http://hanshillen.github.com/aegisdemo/ - can go a long way to seeing that they are adopted.

Thanks! I'm really glad the links are useful. This list makes me think about doing a similar list for Web Development and Usability/Accessibility. Would you happen to have any more awesome lists hanging around on those topics?
