• Using Keytool to Import SSL Certificates into Sun JDK – TalkingTree.com – 've recently seen a little discussion on CFTalk about importing SSL certificates into the JVM keystore used by the JVM under ColdFusion MX in order to connect to SSL enabled resources, such as LDAP servers or Web Servers while using either the tags CFLDAP, CFHTTP, or CFINVOKE. I've also found myself having to do this for the first time recently. During that process I stumbled on what turned out to be a bug in the JVM 1.4.2-b28 that ships with ColdFusion MX 6.1 by default.
 • Article 1, Section 8, Clause 8: Thomas Jefferson to Isaac McPherson – It has been pretended by some, (and in England especially,) that inventors have a natural and exclusive right to their inventions, and not merely for their own lives, but inheritable to their heirs. But while it is a moot question whether the origin of any kind of property is derived from nature at all, it would be singular to admit a natural and even an hereditary right to inventors. It is agreed by those who have seriously considered the subject, that no individual has, of natural right, a separate property in an acre of land, for instance. By an universal law, indeed, whatever, whether fixed or movable, belongs to all men equally and in common, is the property for the moment of him who occupies it, but when he relinquishes the occupation, the property goes with it. Stable ownership is the gift of social law, and is given late in the progress of society.

 • Thoughts on Flash – I wanted to jot down some of our thoughts on Adobe’s Flash products so that customers and critics may better understand why we do not allow Flash on iPhones, iPods and iPads. Adobe has characterized our decision as being primarily business driven – they say we want to protect our App Store – but in reality it is based on technology issues. Adobe claims that we are a closed system, and that Flash is open, but in fact the opposite is true. Let me explain.

 • Highlights: The Journal’s Exclusive Interview With Adobe CEO – Digits – WSJ – Earlier on Thursday, Apple CEO Steve Jobs published an essay in which he took Adobe to task over its Flash software, which Apple does not support on its mobile products, such as the iPhone and iPad. The squabbling between Apple and Adobe has been getting increasingly personal, with Adobe executives and employees angered in particular by Apple’s decision to block Adobe software that would allow developers to produce programs in Flash that would then be converted to work on the iPhone.

The Journal’s Alan Murray had an exclusive interview with Adobe CEO Shantanu Narayen Thursday afternoon, and Digits live-blogged the event. Highlights are below. Excerpts of the video are set to be available on the News Hub live show at 4 p.m., with the full video available on the Journal’s Web site.
